Krab Stick Roll

Krab Stick Roll

Category: Standard Roll
Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: The Krab Stick Roll we had at Sushi Monster in Farmington was a tasty morsel. It’s a very simple roll but that allows for the flavor of the crab to come out.  It’s tasty if you like crab and goes great with a little wasabi and soy sauce.

Description: The Sushi Rock Roll we had at Sushi Monster in Farmington was every bit as good as the Rock and Roll Roll and very similar.

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: The Dynamite Roll we had at Sushi Monster in Farmington was very aptly named.   This is a great roll for beginners as it’s lovingly wrapped in tempura.  The crunchy mixture of the roll mixed with Sushi Monster’s Yum Yum sauce is a perfect bite.

Rock and Roll Sushi Roll

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: The Rock and Roll Roll we had at Sushi Monster in Farmington was very good.  The ingredients were incredibly fresh and tasted as if they had just come out of my garden.  It’s a great taste mixture of salmon and tempura shrimp.  The spikey cucumber slices made it look just like a rock and roller.

Tornado and Viva Roll

I Powered Up to Intermediate Today at New Akasaka

What can we say, we’re falling in love with New Akasaka Sushi Restaurant as they have delicious sushi and it’s by one get one free.  We’re really enjoying trying the great variety of sushi rolls and we’ve never been disappointed.

Today we had lunch there and I went over and above the standard beginner safe sushi rolls and experienced a blooming sushi explosion of flavor.  We started off with a couple delicious rolls in the Tornado Roll and the Viva Roll.  Then there was a little more wait as our Orange Blossom and Cherry Blossom Rolls were being prepared.  We were not disappointing and it was well worth the wait.

The blossom rolls were rolls of delicious fish used as the roll instead of seaweed and rice.  This is not a roll for the beginner as it is a lot of raw fish, especially if your trying both the orange and cherry blossom at the same time.  If I had the chance to do it over again I’d mix it up a bit, but then again I’m newer to the sushi game where as my lunch buddy is an old hand and loves the nigiri and sashimi.

Category: Specialty Roll
Level: Intermediate/Expert

Description: The Cherry Blossom Roll is wonderful.  The spicy tuna adds a great kick that fits just perfectly.  Like the Orange Blossom Roll it is an amazingly beautiful roll to look at and the sushi chef at New Akasaka Sushi Restaurant is a true artist.

Orange Blossom Roll

Category: Specialty Roll
Level: Intermediate/Expert

Description: The Orange Blossom Roll was amazing in presentation and taste.  This is not a roll for the beginner.  You’ve got to love fish for this one, smoked salmon and red snapper with a bath of delicious tobiko sauce makes this a true experience.  It’s a lot of fish so you’ll want to share this with a group.  It’s beautiful to look at as well.  It doesn’t come with any wasabi or ginger but you don’t need any additional flavoring for this roll.  New Akasaka Sushi Restaurant is climbing the charts as one of my favorite sushi restaurants.

Tornado and Viva Sushi Rolls

Viva Roll

Viva Roll
sriracha sauce tempura crab avocado topped with salmon tobiko green onion
Category: Specialty Roll
Level: Beginner

Description: The Viva Roll is a good roll for beginners who want something more than just a California Roll.  The sriracha sauce and green onion give this roll a bit of a bite but not too much.
It has tempura crab and avocado which make it not too overpowering.  It’s a good taste and I’d recommend giving it a try next time your at New Akasaka Sushi Restaurant.

Tornado Long Roll

Tornado Roll

Category: Specialty Roll
Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: The Tornado Roll was great.  The combination of the shrimp, jalapeno and creme cheese make this roll spice and cool at the same time.  One of my new favorites and New Akasaka does it right!  If you like a little spice in your food give this one a try.  It shows two peppers hot, but it’s not really that hot or at least not overbearingly hot where it distracts you.  It’s a perfect amount of heat and flavor.

Candy Roll

Category: Specialty Roll
Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Description: I loved the Candy Roll!  Like it’s name implies, it is sweet but not overly sweet.  I definitely taste the shrimp and crab and nice pieces of avocado.  Topped of with the masago sauce you want to make sure you soak up the roll with the excess sauce.  Great mixed taste with all the ingredients.  I tried it at the New Akasaka Japanese Sushi Restaurant and I give it two thumbs up!
