Overall Rating: 3.8
Stopped by for a nice lunch for my first visit to Tsunami at Union Heights and I was pleasantly surprised.  I’ve heard a lot about Tsunami over the years but have not had the chance to sample their sushi thus far.  I have to say the restaurant lived up to the hype.  The quality of the food, service and price are all spot on.  I made sure to get a VIP card as I’ll be back again…soon!

Quality: 4.5
The quality of sushi at Tsunami is a step above the rest to be honest.   Even on a simple roll the quality of the ingredients and preparation were top notch.  The combination of ingredients created some distinct and tantalizing flavors in my mouth.

Cleanliness: 4
The restaurant is in a fairly new area and the inside is nicely decorated and everything seemed very clean.  It’s a high-class establishment.  No small stoves and tinfoil hanging off the shelf here.  Very tidy and pleasant to sit down and enjoy some sushi.

Service: 3.5
The service was great.  I had a new waiter that was being trained but they were very attentive and my glass was never empty.  Service was great and I didn’t want for anything.

Price: 3.5
For a higher end sushi restaurant I would have expected the prices to be much higher.  Tsunami has been able to bring a quality product to their customers with some personal touches at a price that doesn’t break the bank.

Overall Rating: 3.6
On a trip to Vancouver Washington we toured along the norther Oregon Coast.  One day we stopped for lunch in Seaside Oregon and found Tora Sushi Lounge.  It’s a great location right near the beach so we were sure to have fresh fish.  The roads in the older part of town are very narrow but Tora is right on the corner and you can park across the street by the hardware store.  The restaurant is decorated pretty cool with authentic looking Japanese artwork and pieces.  We were served quickly and the food was super fresh and super tasty.  It was a momentous occasion as my wife tried and successfully ate her first sushi roll.  For some time I have been trying to convince her that sushi isn’t just raw fish and that there would be some sushi that she’d actually like.  The Spicy Scallop roll in soy paper was the roll that did it.  Nothing too grand, but still a first step.

Quality: 4.5
I was very pleased with the overall quality of Tora Sushi Lounge.  I expected fresh tasting ingredients and I wasn’t disappointing.  Everything tasted and looked fresh!

Cleanliness: 3.5
The restaurant looks like it’s been open for some time yet the furnishings were fairly new and I didn’t see anything obvious.  There are a lot of decorations in this place and with the constant beach sand it could become a problem but I didn’t notice anything that gave me cause for concern.

Service: 3
The service was good.  We were one of the first ones in for the evening service and though we had a small wait to order our food came out fairly quickly.  The waitress wasn’t overly nice or inquisitive but provided service with a smile.  A little more friendliness could go a long way.

Price: 3.5
The price is typical for a sushi restaurant for a tourist area.  They have a happy hour with actually very reasonably priced rolls and sashimi.  I wasn’t disturbed by the price and found that I could get a fair selection at rather reasonable prices.

The Happy Sumo is a nice sushi restaurant with lovely decor and atmosphere.  They have a wonderful website with full color photos of what their sushi should look like.  I went there with a group of friends for work and they were very accommodating even though we were early for lunch.

Food Quality: 3.5
The food here is good and everything tasted fresh.

Cleanliness: 4.0
This is a newer restaurant even though it’s not the first in the building.  The dining area is clean and everything looks nice.  No worries about eating here.

Service: 3.0
The hostess was nice and even let our large group in early for lunch.  We had some nice drinks and talked while we wait but our orders were taken quickly and our food came out quicker than I anticipated.  Of course we were the only ones in the restaurant that early but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Price: 3.0
Happy Sumo is in a business park and is priced that way.  While they do have some specials that are nicely priced, this isn’t a half-off sushi restaurant.  You pay full price for good sushi.

Overall Rating: 3
Happi Hashi looks like a great place to get some sushi and Hibachi grilled food.  I’ve only been for the sushi thus far for lunch and it was a typical sushi experience.  There were some nice rolls and I enjoyed the flavors.
Quality: 3
The smell and taste of the sushi was a little fishy but it went down just fine.
Cleanliness: 3
The restaurant seems rather dated but with some nice decorations.  Nothing jumped out at me but it seems like a nice established restaurant that has been around for a while.
Service: 3
The service wasn’t great.  It took 3-4 minutes before anyone greeted us and they weren’t overly friendly.  Have to try them again to see if I  have the same experience.
Price: 3
The price is typical for a sushi bar. I didn’t see any specials or anything that seemed like a discount.

Our expert reviews take into account four factors: food quality, cleanliness of location, service and price. Ratings are on a 1 to 5 scale with 5 being outstanding. One thing to note is that an average restaurant with an average experience is a 3. Our rating for this Restaurant is as follows:

Overall Rating: 3.375
Ichiban Sushi and Asian Grille  was a nice and tasty sushi restaurant.  It’s located downtown, just down the street from Red Ginger Bistro on State Street and about 34th south. Like Red Ginger, they are a half priced sushi restaurant, so the prices on most of the menu items are half cut in half, which is a good deal.  I wanted to try somewhere new and I was with my wife who is a non-sushi eater.  This was a good choice because they have a sushi and Chinese menu that is the best of both worlds.  We’ve tried a number of restaurants in the valley and all over Utah and she said their orange chicken was one of her favorites.  It’s a bit more spicy than orange and we both loved it.
Food Quality: 3.5

The food quality was pretty good here.  Not as good as some other restaurants we’ve been to, but the fish tasted fresh and the sauces were tasty. There is average sushi and there is high quality and I’d say they are somewhere in the middle of that, on par with Red Ginger Bistro up the street.

Cleanliness: 3
The restaurant is located in an older part of town with a lot of older buildings but the restaurant was nice and everything we saw was clean.  They had a nice gazebo on the outside and rather new looking booths on the inside.  No worries for cleanliness here.

Service: 3
The service was typical of many sushi restaurants which is something that needs a little work.  Don’t get me wrong, the service was fast, just not overly friendly.  I think it’s a culture and language thing, but if you’re going to drop $20-$40 on a meal for two you’d like a warmer greeting.  We were thanked multiple times for our service, just never with a smile.  I’d hope that if we were more regular we’d get nicer treatment, but that’s something that 95% of the restaurants we go to need help with.  I’d say it was better than Red Ginger Bistro up the road which I quite liked.

Price: 4
Again the price is good as they have half priced sushi rolls.  I ordered two specialty rolls in the Tiger Eye and Fire Dragon and they were only about $6 a piece which is pretty standard.  Once you’ve had all-you-can-eat sushi or half-priced rolls it’s hard to go back to another place and pay full price for your sushi rolls.
