Utah Sushi Roll Expert Review:
Our expert reviews take into account four factors: food quality, cleanliness of location, service and price. Ratings are on a 1 to 5 scale with 5 being outstanding. Our rating for this Restaurant is as follows:

Overall Rating: 3.6
On a trip to Vancouver Washington we toured along the norther Oregon Coast.  One day we stopped for lunch in Seaside Oregon and found Tora Sushi Lounge.  It’s a great location right near the beach so we were sure to have fresh fish.  The roads in the older part of town are very narrow but Tora is right on the corner and you can park across the street by the hardware store.  The restaurant is decorated pretty cool with authentic looking Japanese artwork and pieces.  We were served quickly and the food was super fresh and super tasty.  It was a momentous occasion as my wife tried and successfully ate her first sushi roll.  For some time I have been trying to convince her that sushi isn’t just raw fish and that there would be some sushi that she’d actually like.  The Spicy Scallop roll in soy paper was the roll that did it.  Nothing too grand, but still a first step.

Quality: 4.5
I was very pleased with the overall quality of Tora Sushi Lounge.  I expected fresh tasting ingredients and I wasn’t disappointing.  Everything tasted and looked fresh!

Cleanliness: 3.5
The restaurant looks like it’s been open for some time yet the furnishings were fairly new and I didn’t see anything obvious.  There are a lot of decorations in this place and with the constant beach sand it could become a problem but I didn’t notice anything that gave me cause for concern.

Service: 3
The service was good.  We were one of the first ones in for the evening service and though we had a small wait to order our food came out fairly quickly.  The waitress wasn’t overly nice or inquisitive but provided service with a smile.  A little more friendliness could go a long way.

Price: 3.5
The price is typical for a sushi restaurant for a tourist area.  They have a happy hour with actually very reasonably priced rolls and sashimi.  I wasn’t disturbed by the price and found that I could get a fair selection at rather reasonable prices.

Overall Rating: 3.25
On a trip back from a family vacation we stopped in Pocatello and I wanted to try the all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant called Sushi Family on Yellowstone. Last time through Poky I noticed that they had two sushi restaurants, Sumisu Sushi and Asian Fusion and Sushi Family.  Sumisu is a typical sushi restaurant and Sushi Family is all-you-can-eat.  The owners and staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Quality: 3.5
I was very pleased with the overall quality of Sushi Family’s food, the sushi tasted fresh.  The crunchy things crunched and the tender bits melted in my mouth.  I ordered off the C menu and I expected the rolls to be higher quality and they were.  The Yellowstone and Phoenix quickly became two of my favorites here.

Cleanliness: 3
The restaurant seemed very clean, I didn’t see anything to cause me to worry.  It’s an older building that used to be used for something else and the decorations seem a bit eclectic, but all in all it was a clean restaurant.

Service: 3.5
The service was good.  I was seated quickly with a friendly welcome.  The first rolls took a little bit to get but I was encouraged to order more even when I was full.  The service was good.

Price: 3
The price is typical for a sushi restaurant for an all-you-can-eat restaurant, slightly lower than a typical Salt Lake restaurant.

Overall Rating: 4.5
Sushi Monster gets a high overall rating because the food was very tasty, very fresh and they had a good lunch special.  This is a great fit for a Utah restaurant as Sushi Monster has the equivalent of Utah Fry Sauce for sushi.  Their Yum Yum sauce is just that, like fry sauce for sushi rolls.  Now I love fry sauce and I love sushi, but I instinctively turned up my nose at this combination.  I thought it a bit of a travesty to put fry sauce on sushi.  It conjures up images of ketchup and sushi for some reason witch just sounds wrong. I was pleasantly mistaken though with their Yum Yum sauce.  Especially for tempura rolls, this is a great combination.  I’m not saying this works well for every roll and all the time, but it was a nice departure from the standard soy sauce or even eel sauce.  I’d highly recommend it and say give this Utah original a try.

Quality: 4
Sushi Monster has a great selection of sushi long rolls as well as bento boxes and other asian delights.  The quality was top notch.  The vegetables popped right out to me.  They were larger Julienned style slices and they tasted super fresh.  The quality was top notch.

Cleanliness: 4
This is a brand new restaurant so it’s spotless.  The decorations are minimalistic and there’s not a lot of surface to get dirty.  Everything I saw was clean and added to the overall experience of the restaurant.

Service: 4

The service was good, not the most overwhelming, but nice.  There was a little longer wait than normal to get our food, but it’s also one of the busiest sushi restaurants I’ve seen at lunch time.  Typically you’ll see 2-3 other customers during a weekday lunch, but we saw at least 10-12 people dining with us.  This also leads me to believe we nailed the quality and overall rating.  If a small sushi restaurant in Farmington Utah can support this kind of traffic they must be doing something right.

Price: 4
The price is typical for a sushi restaurant, but what made it good is the lunch special where you could pick two rolls from a healthy list of options.  We tried the Rock and Roll Roll, Dynamite Roll, LA Roll and the Krab Stick Roll and were delighted with each.  After tip we were looking at a $25 bill.  A bit hefty for lunch, but this wasn’t McDonalds and I feel we definitely got our moneys worth.
